If not for Grace, oh what can be said?
I am uprooted, defruited, twice dead
Vilest, filthiest son of a gun
Delusional ruler and master of none
Brutal, sinful, sickly decay
Stinky, lustful, damned and depraved
Rotten, hypocrite, white-washed tomb
Fading star, blackest dark doom
Unable to follow, futile lead
Blown in the wind, the weakest reed
Cold, lonely, mud and mire
Hate, murder, hell and fire
If not for Grace, oh what could be done?
No one is righteous, no not even one
Shepherdless sheep wondered astray
Hopeless, imprisoned, pitiful slave
Serpent, deceptive, venomous slithering
Feeble, fake, wicked and withering
Endless search, empty pleasure
In pursuit of worthless treasure
If not for Grace, what a terrible notion
The sum of my sins would fill up the ocean
Nought can be said or done to replace
the times I spat in Heaven's face
If not for Grace, oh where would I be?
There is nothing untaintedly good within me!
A heart determined to live a lie
Eat, drink, tomorrow you shall die!
Oh by Grace, by Grace, by Grace!
Only by Grace through faith are ye saved!
No rule, no law, no practical principle
Could save a heart that is desperately sinful
But oh by the cross, the price fully paid!
By Grace forgiven, cleansed and remade
All my righteousness is Jesus' name
Forever a debtor to Grace I remain.

God's Grace
God hears all
The thoughts you want no one to hear
The nonsense prayers of a volleyball game
The prayers of fear
The impossible prayers
The selfish prayers
To say you walk alone in this world
Is to let God's hand go
And battle the challenges of the world
As a person
A grain of rice
In a heaping pile
Life gets hard
We become hopeless
Faithless
And helpless
People judge us on our looks
Our money
Our status
They fall under temptations
But you have to stay strong
We must walk hand in hand with God
Admitting failure
Accepting loss that seems unfathomable
Interlacing fingers with Him
And walking into a war zone

Hands
My hands
are not very beautiful.
Chipped fingernails,
scars and scratches,
rashes,
cracked skin,
sometimes dirty,
sweaty,
or cold.
But you
can make my hands
beautiful hands.
Make them praying hands
that hold on to you.
Make them blessing hands
that pass on your love.
Make them helping hands
that lift the loads of others.
Make them working hands
that give all for you.
Let my hands
be your hands
and give glory to you.

The voice of the Spirit
A professor once told my class, “What you say is not always what people hear” and I find that to be a fitting lesson for today's Gospel.
Jesus spoke plainly, but perhaps not in the manner some expected. Jesus spoke many times in veiled language and parables for a number of reasons, often occurring at the same time. Jesus spoke obscurely so those with closed hearts could not understand. He spoke like this because some who followed him were not yet ready to understand. Likewise, he spoke in this way so that those who believe in Him may understand who He truly is.
No one comes to the Father except to Christ. No one is drawn to Chri
